Phnom Penh, May 11, 2024 --The National Election Committee has finalised the updated list of 11,622 voters for the 4th Election of Capital, Provincial, Municipal, District, and Khan Councils on May 26.H.E. Hang Puthea, an NEC member, chaired here on May 10 a meeting to conclude the update, adding that the voters will cast their ballots at 209 assigned stations across Cambodia.The assigned team, he added, will start distributing voter information cards from May 11 to 15.Eligible voters can visit the NEC website voterlist.nec.gov.kh and the mobile app “NEC KH” to check for the same information.H.E. Hang Puthea called on concerned local authorities at all levels, participating political parties, relevant civil society organisations, the media, and other stakeholders to carry out their respective professional and responsible roles to make the election run smoothly.

Khmer Can Do!" Campaign on 15th May 2024. His Excellency Dr. Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment, stated that the "Clean Cambodia! Khmer Can Do!" campaign is a new initiative that goes hand in hand with that "Today, I Do Not Use Plastic Bag," which was started on 1st September 2023, involing more than 8 million students and people across Cambodia.H.E. Minister stressed that launching the "Clean Cambodia! Khmer Can Do!" campaign clearly shows that Cambodia has managed to prevent the use of more disposals of plastic bags than their littering in public spaces.The "Clean Cambodia! Khmer Can Do!" campaign is the initiative to encourage students, monks, and villagers in village or commune or district or province to altogether do cleaning and collect garbage around their homes, schools, pagodas, and the publc areas for at least 15 minutes every Saturday with proper collection, management and disposal. Solid waste management is part of people’s attitudes and behaviors, reflecting individual actions and norms in their society.His Excellency Dr. Eang Sophalleth expressed his support for the environmental cleanup movement through the "Clean Cambodia! Khmer Can Do!" campaign, aiming to rejuvenate grassroots efforts weekly to promote cleanness, environment and the beauty of local areas for a cleaner, pollution-free Cambodia and the gradual elimination of plastic wastes from the country in the future.It should be noted that in accordance with the "Pentagonal Strategy" Phase 1 and based on the national existing laws, policies, strategies, as well as relevant international conventions, the Ministry of Environment has developed the "Circular Strategy 2023-2028," focusing on three strategic themes: clean, green, and sustainable. The strategy aims to guide and prioritize efforts to ensure environmental sustainability and perfection in respond to climate change, and promotion of green economy.

Phnom Penh, May 10, 2024 --Cambodia exported a total of US$8,005 million worth of goods in the first four months of this year, up 15.2 percent from US$7,606 million recorded in the same period last year, showed the data from the General Department of Customs and Excise on Friday.The Kingdom’s imports rose by 9.3 percent to US$8,664 million, read the report.According to the same source, the bilateral trade between Cambodia and its trade partners was amounted to US$16,670 million during the January-April period, a 12.1 percent year-on-year increase.The U.S. was the biggest market for Cambodia’s exports with a total of US$2,617 million, followed by Vietnam and China with US$1,713 million and US$486 million, respectively.H.E. Penn Sovicheat, Secretary of State and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce, said that the implementation of the Cambodia-China Free Trade Agreement and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) added momentum to the country’s export growth.“Despite the war crisis and weakening of the purchasing power, Cambodian orders remained high, with the volume of orders remaining unchanged, although there was a decline in some items, but an increase on other items,” he said.The markets in the RCEP members are huge for Cambodia’s products, underlined the spokesperson.

Phnom Penh, May 09, 2024 --The Asia Low Carbon Buildings Transition (ALCBT) project was officially launched here on May 8, aiming to achieve a nationwide transition towards low carbon buildings, contributing significantly to the lower energy consumption and greenhouse gas emission reduction in building sector in Cambodia.According to a news release of the German Embassy in Phnom Penh, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Cambodia's economy experienced a transformation with an annual growth rate of 7 percent, which led to a boom in the building and construction industry. In 2019, buildings encompassing the residential, commercial, and public sectors accounted for an astounding 43 percent of the nation's total energy consumption. The electricity demand for all sectors is forecasted to increase 6 times at 66 TWh by 2040 without energy efficiency compared to baseline in 2020. In the National Energy Efficiency Policy 2022-2030 (NEEP), the government has set national targets of energy saving by 19 percent of total consumption, and 34 percent and 25 percent in residential and commercial buildings, respectively, by 2030.H.E. Say Samal, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction acknowledged, "While Cambodia is relatively new to green building concepts, we recognise the opportunity for eco-friendly and energy-saving in building and construction sector, which could boost growth in the sector and contribute to Cambodia’s commitment to achieve carbon neutrality in 2050 under the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Therefore, this project will be an instrumental in developing the Low Carbon Tool to support this vision."This five-year project, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) under the International Climate Initiative (IKI), aims to facilitate a nationwide transition to Low Carbon Buildings (LCBs) in Cambodia and four other Asian countries (India, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam). Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is leading implementation of ALCBT project along with other consortium partners i.e. ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. (EESL), and HEAT International. In Cambodia, the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction is the government counterpart of the project."Cambodia's booming building sector, driven by stable economic growth, contributes significantly to electricity consumption and greenhouse gas emissions," stated H.E. Stefan Messerer, German Ambassador to Cambodia. "This IKI-funded project is a crucial step in helping Cambodia unlock the full potential of green buildings."Under the project, GGGI and other local partners aim to institutionalise low-carbon performance metrics, enhance industry stakeholder capacity, link building performance to financing options, and share best practices to promote project replication and scaling.Ms. Helena McLeod, Deputy Director-General of GGGI, said, "GGGI has been supporting Cambodia in its green growth journey. So far, we have supported the government for sustainable energy practices in the garment sector, electric mobility, waste management, as well as carbon financing. As for green building, the sector also offers a win-win situation for Cambodia. ALCBT project will help reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by and create healthier and more comfortable living and working environments for Cambodians."The project aims to contribute to 1.68 million tCO2eq direct and indirect GHG emission reduction (combined for all project countries) while mobilising €140 (USD XY) million (or US$150 million) worth of investment. In Cambodia, the project will support two policy recommendation outputs (building code enhancement and targets o carbon emissions reduction) to be adopted by the government and eight private and public sector entities to incorporate ALCBT project tools and training programmes.

Phnom Penh, May 10, 2024 --A Cambodian women team expects to excel at the 2024 Women's Indoor Hockey Asia Cup, to be held from May 13 to 16 in Thailand.The optimism was shared by Mr. Kang Sothea, Secretary General of the Cambodian Hockey Federation (CHF), stressing that the Cambodian women's team has accumulated sufficient experience to achieve it.He added that they joined a friendly hockey match in Saraburi province of Thailand in February and the SEA Games 2023 in Cambodia, winning two bronze medals.If the team achieves a good result, they will have an opportunity for the forthcoming Asian Martial Arts.Ten (10) countries are expected to join the tournament, and Cambodia will be in group B with host Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, and Vietnam, according to Mr. Kang Sothea.Group A includes Iran, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nepal, and Oman, he added.This is the second time the Cambodian women team has participated in the event. Last year, Cambodia was ranked second among the 12 participating countries.

Phnom Penh, March 25, 2024 --A high-level Cambodian delegation led by Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet is on the way to the Lao PDR for a two-day official visit, at the invitation of H.E. Dr. Sonexay SIPHANDONE, Prime Minister of the Lao PDR.The delegation was seen off at Phnom Penh International Airport by deputy prime ministers, senior ministers and many other senior government officials as well as H.E. Buakeo Phumvongsay, Lao Ambassador to Cambodia.According to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, during the visit on Mar. 25-26, Samdech Thipadei will pay a courtesy call on H.E. Thongloun SISOULITH, President of the Lao PDR, and hold bilateral talks with his counterpart, Prime Minister Sonexay SIPHANDONE to discuss elevating bilateral cooperation across a wide range of fields. They will also exchange views on sub-regional, regional and international issues of common interest and concern. Phnom Penh, May 11, 2024 --The National Election Committee has finalised the updated list of 11,622 voters for the 4th Election of Capital, Provincial, Municipal, District, and Khan Councils on May 26.H.E. Hang Puthea, an NEC member, chaired here on May 10 a meeting to conclude the update, adding that the voters will cast their ballots at 209 assigned stations across Cambodia.The assigned team, he added, will start distributing voter information cards from May 11 to 15.Eligible voters can visit the NEC website voterlist.nec.gov.kh and the mobile app “NEC KH” to check for the same information.H.E.
