Phnom Penh, May 07, 2024 --

Cambodia’s first regional nursery with a production capacity of more than one million seedlings annually will emerge in Thbong Khmum province.

According to the Ministry of Environment, the nursery was initiated by H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment, and it will be located in village 44, Preah Theat commune, O’ Raing Ov district.

Equipped with a solar-powered automatic irrigation system, the first large-scale nursery in Cambodia will be able to secure 1.2 million seedlings per year.

The regional nursery will help expand Cambodia’s forest cover by 60 percent through the engagement of the public in order to achieve a carbon-neutral country by 2050.

The effort is in line with the Royal Government’s Environmental Chakra Strategy 2023–2028 to ensure the protection, preservation, and conservation of the country's natural resources.

Cambodia has 73 protected areas covering more than 7 million hectares, equivalent to 40 percent of the country’s total land area.
