Some 79 Percent of Grade 12 Students Get Their Baccalaureate
Phnom Penh, October 30, 2024 --A total of 106,351 or 79 percent of the high school students who sit for the upper secondary exams, obtained their baccalaureate, according to a press release of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports made public this morning.Among the successful students, the source pointed out, 2,216 got grade A; 9,701 grade B; 22,675 grade C; 36,683 grade D; and 35,076 grade E.The results will be announced this afternoon for Phnom Penh's and Kandal province's exam centres, and tomorrow for those in other provinces.In 2023, the success rate among high school students was 72.98 percent. Of the graduates, 1,673 got grade A; 6,964 grade B; 18,303 grade C; 34,246 grade D; and 37,269 grade E.The exam is a prerequisite for the high school graduates to pursue their studies at the university level.

Official Export Deal of Cambodia's Bird's Nest to China Being Firmed Up
Phnom Penh, October 29, 2024 --Cambodia and China are expediting formal procedures to export edible bird's nests from the former, ready with supply capacity, to the latter.According to the Director General of the General Department of Agriculture H.E. Ngin Chhay, the negotiations between the two countries have reached the final stage, where a technical protocol will soon be signed and a team of Chinese experts will conduct inspections of bird's nest houses and packaging locations for quality assurance.In a recent media interview, the president of the Khmer Swiftlet Association Mr. Suy Kokthean revealed that his association had already signed a memorandum of understanding with the customs office of China's Guangxi province.Once formal export procedures are in force, he said, Cambodia will start with supplying needed bird's nests to the province.Though Cambodia has yet to have official exports of its edible bird's nests to international markets, the business is lucrative for both domestic demand and informal exports.Mr. Suy Kokthean added that the business is noticeably expanding with bird's nest houses established in almost all provinces across the country, making it capable of supplying around 100 tonnes of the bird's nest a year.The market price for unprocessed high-quality bird's nests is between US$400 and US$450 per kilogramme, and it is between US$1,200 and US$1,500 for the processed ones of the same weight.
Cambodia Expects Solutions for Global Tensions at 12th ICAPP General Assembly

Tourism Ministry Calls for Confidence in Government’s Measures against All Forms of Crime and False Information
Phnom Penh, October 28, 2024 --The Ministry of Tourism has urged the public, as well as national and international tourists, to have confidence in the measures and actions taken by the Royal Government of Cambodia to combat all forms of crime and decisively counter the spread of false information.The call was made after a Korean television channel had recently broadcasted a report accusing that Korean citizens have been subjected to illegal detention, forced labour, and threats in Cambodia.In its statement released yesterday, the Ministry of Tourism said previously, the General Commissariat of National Police strongly denied the misleading reports by Korean television regarding the above accusations which are false and misleading for both national and international public opinion about Cambodia. The Ministry of Interior has also subsequently issued statements refuting similar reports from some foreign media outlets that distort Cambodia's image, claiming that the country tolerates human trafficking, illegal detention, mistreatment of foreign workers, and forced involvement in illegal call centre operations.“The Ministry of Tourism wishes to inform the public and all national and international tourists that under the wise leadership of Samdech Thipadei the Prime Minister, Cambodia continues to maintain peace, political stability, security, and public order, which are essential foundations for development across all sectors, including tourism,” the statement said.Specifically, it continued, in 2023, Cambodia received over 5.45 million international tourists, an increase of 139.5 percent. For the first nine months of 2024, Cambodia welcomed approximately 4.8 million international tourists, an increase of 22.2 percent, which includes 144,293 tourists from Korea, an increase of 14.8 percent compared to the same period in 2023. Cambodia is projected to receive around 7 million international tourists by 2025. At the same time, the Ministry of Tourism invites national and international tourists to actively participate in the upcoming Water Festival in Phnom Penh from Nov. 14-16, and the Sea Festival in Kampot province from Dec. 13-15.“The Ministry of Tourism urges relevant media outlets to adhere to professional ethical standards correcting and ceasing the dissemination of false information that impacts Cambodia's international stage,” the statement concluded.
Eastern European Tourists Visit Cambodia’s Coastal Province
Phnom Penh, October 24, 2024 --A group of foreign tourists from Russia and Kazakhstan arrived in Preah Sihanouk province on Friday, via charter airline, Sunday Airlines.The arrival of the first chart flight was greeted by senior officials of the province. Passengers on board were welcomed with flowers and Khmer scarfs as gifts and Chhay Yam traditional dance.The arrival of this group of international visitors signifies a growing interest in Cambodia's tourism sector among Eastern European travellers, said Mr. Long Dimanche, Deputy Governor of Preah Sihanouk province.“They chose the location of Preah Sihanouk province to relax as a family with both old and young and young children. Preah Sihanouk is a beautiful area with many islands, all of which are attractive,” he said.This is the first time since the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic that such a large number of foreign tourists visit the province through airport.In the coming days, more charter flights carrying foreign tourists from Eastern Europe are also scheduled to arrive in Cambodia, added the deputy governor.
CDC Hosts First-ever Cambodia-Korea Public-Private Sector Dialogue
Phnom Penh, October 25, 2024 --The first-ever Cambodia-Korea Public-Private Sector Dialogue was held to strengthen and promote bilateral cooperation in economy, trade, and investment of both countries to a new height.Held at the headquarters of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) in Phnom Penh on Oct. 24, the Dialogue was co-chaired by H.E. SUN Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the CDC, and H.E. Cambodia, S. Korea Sign Collaboration Agreement in Education
Phnom Penh, October 24, 2024 --Cambodia and the Republic of Korea have reached a Letter of Agreement (LoA) on strengthening and expanding their cooperation in the educational sector.The agreement was inked by H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth, and Sports and H.E. Park Jung-Wook, the Republic of Korea's Ambassador to Cambodia in Phnom Penh on Oct. 23.The agreement aims to provide Korean classes as a formal subject at 15 targeted schools in Cambodia, increase the efficiency of project implementation by promoting cooperation between implementing institutions and concerned stakeholders, and identify conditions and commitment of each party to facilitate the operation of Korean classes as a formal subject in Cambodia's targeted schools.H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron spoke highly of the Korean government's commitment to promoting cooperation with Cambodia in all sectors, particularly in the education field through many projects.Those projects have contributed significantly to Cambodia's human resources development in line with the Royal Government's Pentagonal Strategy-Phase 1 toward achieving the Kingdom’s vision of 2030 and 2050.
Minister: Youth with Clean Inside and Outside Are Potential Assets
Phnom Penh, October 24, 2024 --A role model youth that can effectively campaign for a clean Cambodia is the one who is clean both inside and outside, said the Minister of Environment.H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth highlighted the message when addressing the opening of the workshop on environmental youths in eliminating illicit drug use and ending HIV/AIDS in Cambodia at the ministry on Oct. 23.Youths play an important role in changing public behaviour to better appreciate and contribute to a clean and healthy environment and society, he added.For that, the youths need to be clean from within, meaning they have to stay away from drug use, HIV/AIDS, and other harmful practices and set a good example of being healthy physically and mentally.The minister continued that from there, youths can lead the rest by habituating a clean lifestyle for themselves, their families, their communities, and the society, and inspire others to make Cambodia clean for all, in line with the government's Environmental Chakra Strategy's pillars: clean, green, and sustainable.Environment is everyone's issue, and it needs the participation of people from all walks of life to promote it, and youths of potential are encouraged to help promote the movement.Taking the opportunity, H.E. Cambodia Commemorates 33rd Anniversary of Paris Peace Agreement
Phnom Penh, October 23, 2024 --Cambodian top leaders this morning expressed their congratulations to the 33rd anniversary of the Paris Peace Agreement (Oct. 23, 1991-Oct. 23, 2024).In a short message posted on his social media networks, Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet wrote that a royal great statesman and a great statesman led Cambodia through peaceful negotiations towards national unification and reconciliation in the spirit of "one Cambodia, one cause", which is an opportunity and an important foundation for the reconstruction and development of the nation in all areas."Peace is the foundation of human rights and freedoms," the Premier stressed.For his part, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate and President of the Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King, briefed some historical records towards the conclusion of the peace accord.“Thirty-three (33) years ago, on Oct. 23, 1991, the four parties of Cambodia, including Samdech Techo Hun Sen representing the then Cambodian government, the FUNCINPEC movement represented by Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk and Samdech Krom Preah Norodom Rannariddh, the Khmer People’s National Liberation Front by Mr. Son Sann, and the Democratic Kampuchea (Pol Pot) by Mr. Khieu Samphan signed the peace accord in Paris, France in the presence of international witnesses from 18 countries, including the then UN Secretary-General to end the civil war in Cambodia,” recalled the former Prime Minister of Cambodia on his social media networks.Prior to the conclusion of the Paris Peace Agreement on Oct. 23, 1991, there were two meetings between the former King of Cambodia, Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk, and Samdech Techo Hun Sen (the Sihanouk-Hun Sen negotiations) on Dec. 2-4, 1987 in Fère-en-Tardenois, France, and in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France on Jan. 20-21, 1988.Despite the Paris Peace Agreement of Oct. 23, 1991, Cambodia continued to face civil war caused by the Democratic Kampuchea (Pol Pot) group.But, Samdech Techo Hun Sen underlined, it was the Win-Win policy (launched in Pailin) that completely ended the civil war in 1998 and since then the whole Cambodia has enjoyed full peace and happiness until now.Samdech Moha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly, expressed her gratitude to His Majesty the late King-Father, Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk, and Samdech Techo Hun Sen for having united the four parties 33 years ago, i.e. on Oct. 23, 1991.“The people all over the country would like to thank [the late King-Father and Samdech Techo Hun Sen] for the peace and are committed to preserving this hard-earned peace so that Cambodia can achieve sustainable development and harmony forever,” said Samdech Khuon Sudary.
Cambodia-WHO Country Cooperation Strategy 2024-2028 Signed
Phnom Penh, October 22, 2024 --Cambodia and the World Health Organisation (WHO) have co-signed the country cooperation strategy 2024-2028 for Cambodia to accelerate the country's health coverage.Representing Cambodia, Minister of Health H.E. Prof. Chheang Ra inked the Cambodia-WHO country cooperation strategy on Oct. 21 with Dr. Saia Ma’u Piukala, WHO Regional Director for the Western Pacific, in Manila, the Philippines.The signing of the cooperation strategy happened on the margin of the 75th session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Western Pacific in Manila, where the Cambodian minister and his senior delegation are attending.H.E. Chheang Ra highlighted that the strategy sets out a common vision and joint efforts to improve the health and well-being of the Cambodian people over the next five years, very well in line with Cambodia's national Pentagonal Strategy for Employment, Growth, Equity, Efficiency, and Sustainability.Its strategic priorities also contribute to laying the foundation to achieve Cambodia's roadmap for global health coverage 2024-2035 and the Sustainable Development Goals, especially through integrated and quality-orientated primary health care services, he added.In addition, the priorities focus on promoting the health of individuals, families, and communities through activities in and beyond the health sector and strengthening the health security system to increase the preparedness, response, and resilience of high-risk public health emergencies.

Around 30,000 Jobs on Offer at National Fair Late This Month

Cambodia to Hold 4th Edition of Air & Tech Show in December

New World Bank Group Partnership Framework for Cambodia Focuses on Human Capital, Competitiveness, and Resilience
Phnom Penh, October 17, 2024 --The new Country Partnership Framework (CPF) for Cambodia for 2025–2029 seeks to address three interlinked goals: improving health and basic education, enhancing competitiveness, and strengthening the resilience of vulnerable households, according to a press release issued on Thursday.The CPF was discussed by the World Bank Group on Tuesday. An updated gender action plan will provide the basis for addressing gender gaps in the transition to secondary education and promote better gender data.The CPF will also focus on building accountability into service delivery projects, enhancing public sector fiduciary standards, and continuing to provide oversight and advice on grievance redress mechanisms.The CPF outlines priorities for the World Bank Group programme of support in Cambodia over the next five years. It is based on an analysis of the country’s development challenges, the Royal Government of Cambodia’s development strategy, and consultations with a broad range of stakeholders.“A key focus of our engagement is to improve human capital, especially basic education and foundational skills” said Mariam Sherman, World Bank Country Director for Cambodia, the Lao PDR, and Viet Nam. “The new programme will emphasise poverty reduction by boosting investments in health and education, helping to create jobs, protecting the livelihoods of vulnerable households and strengthening resilience to climate change.”Over the next five years, three arms of the World Bank Group—the International Development Agency (IDA), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA)—will encourage investment in Cambodia and promote public-private partnerships, especially in infrastructure.IFC and the World Bank Group are fostering a robust and competitive private sector in Cambodia, said Ms. Kim-See Lim, IFC Regional Director for East Asia and the Pacific.“We will continue our support to strengthen financial consumer protection and responsible lending practices, catalyse green finance markets, and help Cambodia attract private capital to infrastructure sectors such as energy and transport, particularly through public-private partnerships,” Ms. Kim-See Lim said.
Cambodia Calls on World Parliament to Elevate Efforts for an Equitable World for All

Dr. Ly Thuch, who is the First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), voiced the call in his statement addressing the meeting of the Committee to Promote Respect for International Humanitarian Law at the 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva, Switzerland, on Oct. 15, 2024.In his capacity as the President of the 2024 Ottawa Convention, he highlighted that Cambodia has been working hard to promote the mine-ban treaty, the Ottawa Convention, to contribute to the cause.The Siem Reap-Angkor Summit on a Mine-Free World that Cambodia will host on Nov. 25-29, 2024, will adopt key action plans to further get rid of landmines from the world, he added.The senior minister also took the opportunity to encourage countries in the world to continue joining hands with Cambodia in promoting the implementation of the Ottawa Convention.
Tourism Ministry and Japanese Firm Discuss the Production of Promotional Video Clips on Cambodia
Phnom Penh, October 16, 2024 —Cambodian Minister of Tourism H.E. HUOT Hak received here at the ministry this morning Mr. KATO Kazunori, Executive Director and Secretary General of Japan-Cambodia Association, as well as delegations of Sokimex Group and TBS Holdings Inc.According to the Ministry of Tourism, the meeting touched on a project to produce promotional video clips highlighting the potential of Cambodia's heritage, historical, and natural tourist destinations, as well as her traditional culture, cuisine, and local products.The promotional content will be disseminated through TBS Holdings Inc., a company with a network of over 28 television stations and an audience exceeding 10 million viewers in Japan.The goal is to broaden awareness among the Japanese public, thereby attracting more Japanese and international tourists to visit Cambodia.Additionally, they discussed plans to organise a business forum aimed at encouraging Japanese investors to increase their investments in Cambodia and to expand direct flight routes between Japan and Cambodia.
