Phnom Penh, April 25, 2024 --Tennis Cambodia has been selected to host the 2024 Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group IV playoff event, according to the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC).Tennis Cambodia announced on Tuesday morning that it will be the first time to be the host and stand as another milestone for Tennis Cambodia and the nation at large.According to Tennis Cambodia, after hosting the 2023 SEA Games and the first-ever ITF Asian Junior Championships, it looks to continue its historic run by bringing the World Cup of Tennis to Phnom Penh for the first time.The 2024 Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group IV Playoff Event will last from July 8 to 13 at the Morodok Techo National Stadium in Phnom Penh.The tournament features eight countries, including Cambodia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.

Japan Supports Roofing Construction Of A Wheelchair Basketball Court In Battambang Province
Phnom Penh, March 22, 2024 --Cambodia Wheelchair Basketball Federation (CWBF) will be granted US$76,333 by the Government of Japan for the Roofing Construction of a Wheelchair Basketball Court in Battambang province.The Grant Contract was signed here on Mar. 21 between Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. UENO Atsushi, and H.R.H. Princess Sisowath Kanthireth, President of CWBF.According to a press release of the Embassy of Japan in Phnom Penh, this grant will be used to construct a roofing for the current wheelchair basketball court located at Physical Rehabilitation Centre in Battambang.As the court has no roofing, it continued, athletes of wheelchair basketball have limited time to practice during morning or evening when the sun is not too high, or even may not practice at all when it is raining.Through this project, athletes will be able to practice anytime regardless of day or night and weather, and lead the wheelchair basketball team to achieve better results in an international competition in the future, said the source, adding that with great anticipation, more people would be interested in playing sports, and through that engagement, people could live a healthier society in the future.The grant is made under the framework, the Grant Assistance for Cultural Grassroots Projects (“KUSANONE”), which directly contributes to the promotion of cultural, sports, and higher educational activities and preservation of cultural heritage conducted by non-profit organisations that are active at the grassroots level in developing countries.
7th Angkor Ultra Trail in Siem Reap Expects More Foreign Runners
Phnom Penh, January 10, 2024 --Seventy (70) percent of participating foreign runners will fly from their countries to join the 7th Angkor Ultra Trail in Siem Reap province on Jan. 27.The update was shared by Senior Minister H.E. Thong Khon, President of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), in a press conference here in Phnom Penh on Jan. 8.The Angkor Ultra Trail, which will be organised by NOCC in collaboration with Phoenix Voyage, aims to promote tourism, enhance the local economy, and contribute to Cambodia's sports development, said H.E. Thong Khon.The running event was first held in 2016 with only 232 runners, and more and more runners joined the event from year to year, reaching 1,200 (40 percent of whom are women) from 44 countries in 2023.According to Mr. Edouard George, Director of Phoenix Voyages, as of Jan. 8, some 1,076 runners from 43 countries had signed up for the event.Most of the registered runners are from Cambodia, France, Vietnam, South Korea, and the United States of America, he added.There will be eight disciplines: Ultra-Trail Angkor 100km, Bayon Trail 64km, Marathon Trail 42km, Jungle Trail 32km, Temple Run, Nordic Walk 18km, Walk and Hike 18km, and Elephant Trail 8km.
NOCC to Request for Inclusion of Traditional Sports into the 5th Asian Youth Games
Phnom Penh, January 03, 2024 --The National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) will request the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) to include Cambodian traditional sports in the 5th Asian Youth Games to be hosted by Cambodia in 2029.The intention was shared by its NOCC Secretary General H.E. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports, in his recent interview with AKP.The Asian Youth Games 2029 will consist of 20 kinds of sports, including Olympic sports, and Cambodia will propose Kun Khmer, Lbokator, and Ok Chaktrang (chess) to be included in the games, he said.He added that NOCC President Senior Minister H.E. Thong Khon will prepare a strategic plan for a successful host of the games and encouraged the national sports federations to further develop the capacity of young athletes aged 12, 13, and 14 years old, as they will be 17, 18, and 19 years old by 2029.The age limitation is determined by OCA, and the host must respect the guidelines and techniques to carry out its tasks smoothly, emphasised the committee's secretary general.The Royal Government of Cambodia is committed to hosting the 5th Asian Youth Games and the Asian Para Youth Games successfully, and the Cambodian para athletes will also be trained hard for the games.Cambodia was authorised by the OCA to host the forthcoming games following a decision at the OCA's 40th General Assembly in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Nov. 21, 2021.Sport contingents from 45 Asian countries are expected to join the 2029 Asian Youth Games.

China-Supported Training and Sports Materials for Asian Youth Games 2029
Phnom Penh, October 11, 2023 --China continues to support Cambodia with long-term training and sports materials for its hosting of the 5th Asian Youth Games in 2029.The support was revealed by H.E. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports and Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) at Phnom Penh International Airport on Oct. 9 after the arrival of Cambodian sports delegation from the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, China.H.E. Vath Chamroeun continued that his committee sought support during its participation in the 19th Asian Games.The committee will select the best Cambodian athletes, including Cambodian runners, to get trained in China, said the secretary of state.So far, China has contributed to building Morodok Techo National Stadium worth over US$150 million to enable Cambodia to host international sports events, including the 32rd SEA Games and the 12th ASEAN Para Games 2023, held in May and June.China has also been supporting 160 Cambodian athletes with long-term training in 12 kinds of sports.

Phnom Penh, August 23, 2023—Cambodian sports delegates and athletes have returned home from the 5th Asian Petanque Championship in Malaysia with 6 medals, including 1 gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze. Their arrival at Phnom Penh International Airport early this week was welcomed by Mr. Pon Sok, President of the National Centre for Sports Training of the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports, accompanied by leaders of the Boules and Petanque Federation of Cambodia. Ms. Un Sreya got the gold medal in the women’s shooting event, and the silver medal was grabbed by Mr. Sin Vong, Mr. Iet Sophat, Mr. Sok Chanmean, and Mr. Heng Thorn in the 3x3 men's event. National Primary School Games 2023: Kampong Chhnang Province Ranked 1st with 17 Medals
Phnom Penh, August 21, 2023 --The National Primary School Games 2023 was successfully completed yesterday evening after ten days of competitions.Kampong Chhnang province sit first with 17 medals, including 7 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze, followed by Phnom Penh capital with 18 medals – 6 gold, 5 silver and 7 silver, and Stung Treng province with 9 medals – 6 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze. Phnom Penh, August 17, 2023—U23 Cambodian football team left the country on Aug. 15 for the AFF U23 Championship 2023 to be held from Aug. 17 to 26 in Thailand. The contest attended by the ten ASEAN countries was divided into three groups and Cambodia is in group A. Led by Coach Felix Dalmas, Cambodian team will have a match with Brunei on Aug. 17 in Rayong stadium, then with Myanmar and Thai players on Aug. 19 and 21 respectively. The semi-final will take place on Aug. 26.
Another Stadium to be Built in Siem Reap
Phnom Penh, August 16, 2023 --Angkor Tiger Club will build a stadium named "Angkor Tiger Stadium" on three out of its five-hectare land in Siem Reap province.Mr. Akihiro Kato, President of Angkor Tiger Club, and Mr. Kang Sen, Director General of Fuxin Steel Building, signed a memorandum of understanding on the construction of the stadium on Aug. 14 in the presence of Mr. Satoshi Saito, CEO of the Cambodian Primer League.According to Mr. Akihiro Kato, the construction of the stadium with 5,000 seats for speculators will begin in Oct. 2023 and is expected to finish in Aug. 2024.Once completed, the stadium will not only serve for the Cambodian Premier League 2024–2025 season but also for the organisation of tourism events.Mr. Kang Sen was positive that the stadium would be of high quality and attractive and would contribute to developing Cambodia's football.
World Police & Fire Games 2023: Cambodia Bags 71 Medals
