Phnom Penh, June 17, 2024 —Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet said Cambodia will not ban any import of old or used cars, but has to ensure the technical inspection.Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of twin flyovers at the intersection between Samdech Techo Hun Sen Blvd. and the National Road No. 2 held here this morning, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said some initiatives had been raised to ban old cars into the country, but he rejected.The Royal Government has no policy to prohibit people from buying more cars, but the strengthening of car technical inspection is needed, he added.The Premier also underlined the Royal Government’s efforts in solving the problem of traffic congestion in the capital city.According to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, from 1992 to 2023, Cambodia had a total of total 1,14 million cars.

Pen Bona, wrote that on June 20, 47 years ago, on the border of Cambodia, the 25-year-old Samdech Techo Hun Sen made a huge sacrifice with his four other comrades to save his fellow Cambodians and the whole nation.He called the liberation journey that started in the X-16 area in Tonloung commune, Memut district, Thbong Khmum province, a risk to pursuit of ‘one luck from ten thousand accidents.’After overcoming numerous obstacles, a national liberation movement was formed on May 12, 1978, followed by an expansion into the Dec. 2 front that led to the victory on Jan. 7, 1979.Although the mission to claim the right to life has been successful, Samdech Techo Hun Sen and his colleagues in the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) continue to carry heavy burdens to end the remaining civil war while restoring the entire nation, which had been completely destroyed both in terms of social infrastructure and human resources.Commemorating the journey towards national liberation and the process of nation-building after the Khmer Rouge regime sits as a testimony of a true hero of Cambodia, he added.He continued that peace and all the achievements in Cambodia today are the outcome of the sacrifice of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, former Prime Minister of Cambodia, and his CPP colleagues.The development is being secured in the safe hands of current Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, who is leading Cambodia with a strong aspiration to make it a high-income country by 2050.

Dr. Thong Khon, who is also a senior minister, voiced his support in a meeting with CEF, followed by an inspection visit to Cambodia's new equestrian court in Phnom Penh recently.Cambodia’s engagement in equestrian sports dates back to a period led by His Majesty the Late King-Farther Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk (Preah Borom Ratanak Kaudh) in 1960.According to CFE, Mr. Jack Huang, Vice President of the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (Fédération équestre internationale), or FEI visited the Genius Resort Equestrian Club in Phnom Penh on June 17. Cambodia Receives 2.1 Million Foreign Tourists In First Four Months

Phnom Penh, June 18, 2024 --Cambodia welcome 2.11 million foreign tourists in the first four months of this year, up 23 percent compared to the same period in 2023, according to a Ministry of Tourism’s report.Thailand topped the list of foreign arrivals to Cambodia during the said period with 588,312 visitors, though the figure represents a year-on-year decrease of 3.2 percent, the source said.Some 414,366 Vietnamese and 260,455 Chinese tourists also travelled to Cambodia during the four-month period, up 43.1 percent and 41.5 percent respectively, it added.Nearly 825,000 visitors, or about 39 percent of the total foreign tourist arrivals, arrived in Cambodia via airports, a year-on-year increase of 30.1 percent, and the rest via land border gates and waterways, the report pointed out.H.E. Top Sopheak, Secretary of State and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Tourism, said that the figures clearly indicated that Cambodia's tourism sector is on a recovery path even though it has not yet reached the level before the COVID-19 crisis.“The Royal Government through the Ministry of Tourism is putting its efforts in working with relevant parties and the private sector to promote tourism potential in order to attract more foreign tourists to visit Cambodia,” he said.At the same time, the ministry’s report showed that Cambodia’s outbound tourism also went up by 2.2 percent to 582,986 during the January-April period of this year.The ministry also recorded 7.8 million domestic visitors to the tourism destinations across the country.Last year, the Kingdom received 5.45 million foreign visitors, earning a gross revenue of US$3.08 billion, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

The flowers are complemented by a showy violet lip with white ridges.

The construction of the 622-metre-long twin flyovers is expected to take 12 months to complete at an estimated cost of more than US$16 million.Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet added that the gap between Phnom Penh and the provinces is gradually narrowed thanks to the construction of various infrastructure.

Cambodia Shows Signs Of Improvement In Public Debt Management

Phnom Penh, June 14, 2024 --Cambodia's public debt management strategy has showed signs of success as the country’s public debt has decreased to US$11.09 billion in the first quarter of 2024.This is a positive development compared to the US$11.24 billion recorded at the end of 2023.In the first quarter (Q1) of 2024, the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) has signed new concessional loans with development partners in the total amount of US$140 million equivalent to SDR 105.25 million accounting for 6 percent of the ceiling permitted by Law (SDR 1,700 million), according to Cambodia’s Public Debt Situation issued on Friday.The loan signed in Q1 2024 decreased by approximately 71 percent compared to the same period last year.The RGC has also disbursed US$141 million from the existing concessional loans, used for infrastructure and for other priority sector (non-infrastructure), down 47 percent compared to the same period last year.Meanwhile, the RGC has paid debt service in the amount of US$181 million, a year-on-year increase by 0.5 percent.As of the end of Q1 2024, including the old debt, the RGC has a total public debt stock of US$11.09 billion in which US$11 billion is public external debt and US$98 million is public domestic debt.The composition of the public debt stock is comprised of US$ 46 percent, SDR 19 percent, CNY 11 percent, JPY 11 percent, EUR 7 percent, and local and other currencies 6 percent.All the key debt indicators in 2024 are well below the thresholds, of which the Present Value of Public and Publicly Guaranteed External Debt to GDP, is at 19 percent compared to the 40 percent threshold, the report stated.“Despite being impacted by the widespread of Covid-19 and other external factors, Cambodia's public debt situation continues to remain ‘sustainable’ and ‘low risk’ of debt distress,” it underlined.The report added that in Q1 2024, the RGC has issued government securities in a total amount of US$45 million for financing supports to the public investments for economic and productivity.

Ministry To Launch Online App To Promote Tree Planting

Computers, no matter how smart they are, are not able to develop themselves. APSARA National Authority Excavates Eastern Causeway Of Beng Mealea Temple

Phnom Penh, June 12, 2024 --The technical team of the Department of Conservation of Monuments and Preventive Archaeology of the APSARA National Authority is conducting the archeological excavation on the structure of the eastern causeway of Beng Mealea Temple for future restoration projects, the authority said in a news release on June 11.Mr. Puth Soth, Technical Officer of the Department of Conservation of Monuments and Preventive Archaeology, who led the excavation, said that the team had started excavation on the causeway to examine the possibility of restoring the structure of the eastern causeway of Beng Mealea Temple.Mr. Puth Soth added that after excavating the top soil layer, he found that the floor of the causeway had collapsed, with the weakened foundations tearing apart, causing some components of the structure such as pillars, the Naga balustrade, the Naga's body, the Naga's head, many fragments falling into the moat and some buried in the ground due to age and natural factors.According to the APSARA National Authority, the project to restore the eastern causeway of Beng Mealea Temple is under the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Fund.

Construction Of Tallest Buddha Statue Opens For Public Contribution

Phnom Penh, June 12, 2024 --Southeast Asia's tallest Buddha statue is being constructed on Cambodia's Bokor Mountain, a well-known natural tourist attraction whose peak is 1,017 metres high, in Kampot province.The President of Sokha Hotel, Neak Oknha Sok Kung, initiated the construction of the 108-metre-tall Buddha statue, which was estimated to cost about US$60 million to worship the enlightening teachings of Lord Buddha.Neak Oknha Sok Kung is launching a festival to mobilise local resources, especially from followers of Buddha, from June 28 to 30 at the Sokha Hotel in Siem Reap province.The occasion will open an opportunity for them to contribute to the construction of the historic statue.The event will also feature food and beverage stalls and performances and offer accommodation with special rates at the five-star Sokha Hotel to participants.
