Phnom Penh, July 16, 2024 --Cambodian athletes have grabbed 17 medals – 4 gold, 6 silver and 7 bronze – at the WDSF World Challenge Cup: Rising Stars Latin & Standard 2024 in Vietnam.The update was shared by Mrs. Hang Simorn, Secretary General of Cambodia DanceSport Federation (CDSF), adding that the gold medalists are Mr. Chum Lyheang, Ms. San Roza, and Mr. Long Chamnol.Mr. Chum Lyheang and Ms. San Roza won each a gold medal for WDSF World Challenge Cup Rising Star 2024; while the young athlete Mr. Long Chamnol alone got two gold medals, pointed out the secretary general.This is, she added, a new achievement of Cambodia's Dancesport thanks to the Cambodian athletes' hard work in training and competitions.The event taking place on July 13-14 attracted the participation of over 1,000 athletes from 26 countries in the Asian, European, American and African continents.Besides the WDSF World Challenge Cup: Rising Stars Latin & Standard 2024, athletes also showcased their talents in two other major events including the WDSF International Open Latin & Standard 2024 and the KTOC Cup 2024.
Over 2.5 Tonnes Of Live Mantis Shrimps Exported
Phnom Penh, July 16, 2024 --Since early 2024, Cambodia has exported over 2.5 tonnes of live mantis shrimps to the People's Republic of China.The figure was shared on July 15 by H.E. Ms. Im Rachna, Under Secretary of State and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries.She presented the highlights during a meeting in Phnom Penh before a roadshow to promote fishery production in the provinces of Kampot, Koh Kong, and Preah Sihanouk.Due to the hot weather in the early months of the year, the harvest of mantis shrimps decreased, pushing up its price at the market.The ministry will urge domestic breeding of mantis shrimps if there is more demand for exports to international markets, she added.Cambodia initially exported 45 kilogrammes of mantis shrimp to China on Sept. 16, 2023.According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, in 2023, Cambodia exported 1,095 kilogrammes of live mantis shrimps to China.Besides mantis shrimps, other Cambodian aquatic products exported to China included live eels, frozen eels, and frozen freshwater glass shrimps.The export of aquatic products to China is a significant move for fishery sector in Cambodia in addition to agricultural products such as milled rice, fresh mango, banana, and longan.
Cambodia, Thailand Sign MoU To Strengthen Parliamentary Ties
Phnom Penh, July12, 2024 --Cambodia and Thailand have entered into Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote the ties of friendship and cooperation between both countries’ parliaments to be more active and comprehensive through parliamentary diplomatic activities.The signatories were Samdech Moha Rathsapheathika Thipadei KHOUN Sudary, President of the National Assembly (NA) of Cambodia, and H.E. Wanmuhamadnoor Matha, President of the NA and Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Thailand, in Bangkok on July 11, during the former’s two-day official and friendly visit in Thailand.Under the MoU, both sides will support each other, participate and exchange information and best practices and resources for mutual benefits of both countries, as well as exchange visits at four levels: parliamentary leadership, specialised committees, parliamentary friendship groups and senior officials, and secretariat/general secretariat, which will contribute to attain peace, prosperity and advancement of parliamentary of both countries. Commerce Ministry, China’s Yueqing Discuss Relationship Expansion
Phnom Penh, July 15, 2024 --Cambodian Ministry of Commerce and Yueqing city of China’s Zhejiang province have recently discussed the expansion of their relationship as well as the promotion of bilateral trade cooperation between Cambodia and China.The discussion took place here between H.E. Environment Ministry To Organise An Exhibition To Promote And Distribute Seedlings

Preparation For Construction Of A Bridge Crossing Mekong River On Track
Phnom Penh, July 09, 2024 —The preparation of a construction project of a bridge crossing the Mekong River is well on track, according to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.The China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), the contractor for the project, has already prepared locations for office operations, machinery warehouses, and storage of construction materials.The firm is building a temporary port that is now 80 percent complete to transport construction materials to the construction site. Situated to the southeast of Phnom Penh, the 3,700-metre bridge with a 120-metre flyover will link the western Xi Jinping Boulevard and the future Phnom Penh-Bavet expressway.The construction project was estimated to cost US$230 million (of the national budget) and is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.

GI Plays A Key Role In Promoting Entrepreneurship And Developing Agricultural Communities

HEM Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation, visited K&K Pipe Cambodia's factory as part of a series of visits to industrial facilities, emphasizing the company's role in advancing Cambodia's water supply sector.Minister Vanndy praised K&K Pipe for adhering to international standards and its efforts in reducing imports, creating jobs, and enhancing technical expertise in the water supply sector. "With high-quality pipes like those produced by K&K Pipe, public and private water supply operators can reduce water loss and enhance services for citizens and the industrial sector," said Minister Vanndy. MRC, USAID Sign Partnership Collaboration
Phnom Penh, June 29, 2024 --The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has reached a US$5 million cooperation agreement on a new Mekong basin partnership with the Mekong River Commission (MRC).The agreement was inked on June 27 at the MRC’s secretariat in Vientiane, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, according to the MRC’s press release.The agreement will help MRC increase resources for the development of the committee’s strategic priorities, especially to provide technical assistance to member countries including Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, and Thailand in collecting and using data related to the river.Dr. Steven G. Olive, USAID Mission Director for the Regional Development Mission for Asia (RDMA), said USAID will continue to partner with leaders in the region to address issues, accelerate sustainable development, build climate resilience, and promote economic prosperity in the region.According to Dr. Anoulak Kittikhoun, Chief Executive Officer of the MRC, the agreement will also promote cooperation and dialogue with stakeholders that contribute to resilient communities along the Mekong River.
Cambodia Launches Digital Platform For Registration Of SMEs, Handicrafts And Factories
On June 27, 2024, the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation (MISTI), through the collaboration and support of the Australian Government, launched the first phase of a digital registration and licensing portal for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), handicrafts and industrial factories. This initiative streamlines formalization by replacing manual procedures, minimizing required in-person visits, expediting processing times and simplifying payment.The launch ceremony was presided over by H.E. Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Finance, along with government leaders and foreign dignitaries, during the 1st National Day of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. It also brought together entrepreneurs, representatives from business associations, ministries-institutions and development partners.Through the support of the Cambodia Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED) program, the digital platform was developed by the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation (MISTI) to be inclusive, user-friendly and accessible through any digital device. In the first phase, the single portal streamlines three legal processes: 1.) Requesting a Prakas to establish SMEs or handicrafts, 2.) Application for license or renewal of license to operate SMEs or handicrafts, and 3.) Application for the establishment of factories. After this launch, SME, handicraft and factory owners will be able to apply, pay and receive these important certificates online.“The launch of this digital portal marks yet another significant milestone in our journey towards a more efficient and transparent business environment. By simplifying the registration and licensing process, we are reducing the administrative burden on the private sector, and fostering a more conducive business environment,” Minister Hem Vanndy of MISTI said.Prior to its launch, the platform underwent a series of user testing workshops with MISTI officials, registration service providers, and representatives from the SMEs, handicraft and industry sectors, including women and people with disabilities. Cambodia Hosts 1st National Day Of Micro, Small, And Medium Enterprises
On June 27, 2024, Cambodia hosted its 1st National Day of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), under the theme “Better MSME Ecosystem for Better Growth.”Presided over by H.E. Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Finance, the event was dedicated to celebrating the vital contributions of MSMEs to the nation’s economy and fostering an environment of innovation, sustainability, and inclusive growth.The first National MSME Day featured a series of activities, including MSME product expos, networking sessions, and panel discussions. This hybrid event brought together policymakers, entrepreneurs, business leaders, development partners and stakeholders from across the country to share insights, exchange ideas, and explore opportunities for collaboration and growth.The Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) has designaged June 27 every year as the National MSME Day, underscoring Cambodia's commitment to achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030. Metfone And The “Run For A Better Life” Event For The Community
The “BIDC & METFONE – Run for a Better Life 2024” marathon event officially kicks off at Peng Huot on June 23, aiming to bring positive values to the community. The event is co-organized by BIDC and Metfone. Going beyond a typical sports activity, the “BIDC & METFONE – Run for a Better Life 2024” is a charity fundraising marathon. All running achievements will be converted into money, which will be donated by the organizers to Cho Ray Phnom Penh Hospital, with the aim of supporting the hospital in its community medical activities. Accordingly, the marathon will have two activities: the Online Run and the Offline Race, which serves as a kickoff event for the online run. The offline activity will take place from 6:00 AM to 8:00 AM on Sunday, June 23, 2024, with a running distance of approximately 5 km. For the online running program, participants register through the BIDCRun mobile application (automatically connected to the Strava app upon registration) and freely engage in walking/running activities outdoors at any time and location. For every valid kilometer run in the program, the system will convert the contribution amount to 500 KHR/km (calculated based on the total kilometers achieved by the participant). With the desire to spread the love of sports in general, running in particular, and the humanitarian significance of the marathon, Metfone and BIDC announced that this will become an annual event. They aim to promote the sports movement and improve the health of not only BIDC - METFONE employees but also the community as a whole.
