Phnom Penh: Throughout 2023, Cambodia earned more than $ 851 million from the export of jewelry and gems to the international market, an increase of 261% compared to 2022, which was only about $ 261 million. This statement was made by Ms. Tan Tepi Kanika, Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Commerce at the Second Press Conference on the 15th Cambodia International Jewelry and Gem Fair 2024 on January 22, 2024. Ms. Tan Tepi Kanika emphasized that the positive momentum of export growth underscores the success of the close, strong, and comprehensive cooperation between the Ministry of Commerce, relevant ministries, institutions, as well as the Royal Government of Cambodia, and the private sector as well as the Cambodian Association of Jewelers and Precious Gems.It should be noted that the export of Cambodian jewelry and precious stones to international markets has increased steadily, with 2021 Cambodia exporting 149 million dollars, in 2022 Cambodia exports 261 million dollars, an increase of 75%, and by 2023, Cambodia exported $ 851 million, an increase of 261%. As of the first 11 months of 2023, the Ministry of Commerce has issued permits for the import of unprocessed diamonds amounting to 148 million US dollars and the export of processed diamonds, plus the remnants of processing for $ 62 million.

Phnom Penh, January 16, 2024 --Cambodia and the European Union (EU) have discussed more cooperation on human rights in Cambodia.The discussion took place in a meeting between Senior Minister H.E. Keo Remy, President of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee (CHRC), and H.E. Igor Driesmans, Ambassador of the EU to Cambodia, in Phnom Penh on Jan. 15.H.E. Keo Remy underlined the preparation of a report on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), round 4, which was consulted with concerned ministries and stakeholders.The UPR will be reviewed and endorsed by the Cambodian Prime Minister before being submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to proceed with the next step.The senior minister briefed H.E. Igor Driesmans about a draft law on the establishment of the National Human Rights Institute in accordance with Paris Guidelines and International Human Rights Norms.The committee cooperated with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Cambodia to organise 32 consultation meetings with the participation of concerned players.There were also regular inspections of the human rights situation in detention centres such as jails and correctional and rehabilitation centres, indicating good results.He also proposed that the EU ambassador seek the possibility of more cooperation between the CHRC, the EU embassy, and OHCHR on human rights in Cambodia.For his part, H.E. Over US$1 Million Bridge in Koh Kong Province Put into Official Use
Phnom Penh, January 08, 2024 --Samdech Techo Koh Yor Bridge in Koh Kong province was officially inaugurated this morning under the presidency of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet.Located in Neang Kok village, Paklong commune, Mondul Seima district, the concrete bridge of 121 metres long and 11 metres wide was built from July 2, 2022 to June 15, 2023 at a total cost of US$1,387,000, according to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport.This is a precious donation of former Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen via Neak Oknha Ly Yong Phat, a Member of the Senate, for the people in Paklong commune, the source underlined.The bridge will contribute to facilitating the travel of local citizens and tourists as well as the transportation of goods in Koh Kong province.
