Phnom Penh, August 31, 2023 --

The Republic of Serbia is committed to continue strengthening its relations and cooperation with the Kingdom of Cambodia, affirmed H.E. Ms. Ana Brnabić, Serbian Prime Minister in her recent congratulatory letter to Cambodian new Prime Minister H.E. Kitti Tesaphibal Pundit Hun Manet.

“On the occasion of your appointment as Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia. I extend to you, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and on my own, cordial congratulations and best wishes for the successful discharge of your responsible duties, as well as for the further overall progress and well-being of your country and the friendly people of Cambodia,” she said.

The Serbian leader also expressed her pride of the traditionally friendly relations between both countries, which date back to the founding of the Non-Aligned Movement, within the framework of which the two countries cooperated closely. “Serbia is strongly committed to further deepening the cooperation with Cambodia, and I am ready to make a personal contribution to this end,” she underlined.

“I am extremely pleased by the fact that ASEAN member states recognised Serbia's strong interest in acceding to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), and I am convinced that the relations between our countries will continue to strengthen through comprehensive cooperation within ASEAN. In this regard, I avail myself of this opportunity to express my deep gratitude for the kind assistance and invaluable support that the friendly Kingdom of Cambodia provided to the Republic of Serbia in the process of acceding to the aforementioned treaty,” she added.

H.E. Ms. Ana Brnabić also expressed her gratitude for the principled position Cambodia has maintained concerning non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo. “The unwavering stance of the Kingdom of Cambodia on this issue, which is a vital one for us, testifies not only to the friendship towards my country, but also to the consistent commitment of your country to the fundamental principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations,” she said.

The Serbian Premier took the opportunity to invite H.E. Kitti Tesaphibal Pundit Hun Manet to pay a visit to the Republic of Serbia in the period ahead, at a date of mutual convenience, which would be an opportunity to meet and exchange views on possibilities for the further promotion of cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.
