Phnom Penh, September 09, 2023 --

Cambodia and Cook Islands will establish their diplomatic relations as their foreign ministers will conduct a joint study to determine a framework to build the diplomatic ties.

Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and H.E. Mark Stephen Brown, Prime Minister of the Cook Islands, agreed in principle on the establishment, during their bilateral talks on the sidelines of the 43rd ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Jakarta, Indonesia this week.

The two leaders shared the same ideas that the size of a country, small or large, should not be an obstacle to relations and cooperation if the two sides seek a common vision, common direction and will to achieve a common destiny.

The relationship between both countries can start from this high-level meeting and continue to potential sectors, such as agriculture and tourism, they added.

The two Premiers invited each other for a visit to their countries at any convenient time in the future.

Located in South Pacific Ocean, Cook Islands is a self-governing island state consisting of 15 small islands. It is in free association with New Zealand with a total population of 15,040 (2021).
