Cambodia, Singapore To Tighten Cooperation In Various Domains
Phnom Penh, June 19, 2024 --
Cambodia and Singapore have vowed to further strengthen and expand their cooperation in the areas of politics, trade and investment, people-to-people exchange, energy security, and national defence and security.
The commitment was made between Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and H.E. Lawrence Wong, Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore, during their official bilateral meeting in Singapore on the evening of June 18.
Both Premiers agreed to continue regular political consultations between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs to broaden the bilateral cooperation, and to form a joint working group to discuss ways and action plans to improve trade and investment cooperation between both nations.
The two leaders also agreed to continue the people-to-people exchange, including human capital development, vocational training, and tourism promotion through the expansion of direct flights between Cambodia and Singapore, with efforts to attract tourists from other countries.
On energy security cooperation, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and H.E. Lawrence Wong welcomed the outcome of the Cambodia-Laos-Singapore Ministerial Meeting, the establishment of the Ministerial Working Group of the three countries and encouraged further participation of stakeholders.
For the cooperation in the area of national defence and security, the two counterparts discussed exchanges of visits by senior officials and training sessions, as well as cooperation on combating transnational crime, human trafficking, drug trafficking, cybercrime, and online scams.
Both Prime Ministers also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of common interest to contribute to building peace, stability, unity and prosperity in the region and the world.
Besides, they agreed to continue cooperation in the banking, finance and digital sectors, and witnessed the launch of the Financial Transparency Corridor project and the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding on Digital Government Cooperation.
Cambodia and Singapore will mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic ties next year.
