SMEs Encouraged To Raise Fund Through Securities Market

Phnom Penh, June 6, 2024 --

The Securities and Exchange Regulator of Cambodia (SERC) has encouraged small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to raise fund through the securities market and enhance the excellence, prestige and sustainability of SMEs in Cambodia.

H.E. Sou Socheat, Delegate of the Royal Government in Charge as Director General of the SERC made the calls in a seminar on "How SMEs Access to Securities Market: Thailand Experiences" held on June 5, 2024, co-organized the seminar on "How SMEs Access to Securities Market: Thailand Experiences", under the support of the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation (MISTI) and the Young Entrepreneurs Association of Cambodia (YEAC).

“Raising funds through the securities market will enhance the excellence, prestige and sustainability of SMEs in Cambodia. Therefore, I would like to appeal to SMEs who are interested in raising funds through the securities market or have vision to standardize their company with good governance can contact SERC directly or ask for support through MISTI or YEAC. We are ready for this mission to support you,” he stressed.

H.E. Hort Pheng, Under Secretary of State of the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation, said that accessing to the securities market is an opportunity for SMEs to expand their business and connectivity to regional and global supply chain networks.

“In this regard, I would like to suggest to all SMEs to seize this opportunity to be more proactive in expanding production, business and services and strengthening competitiveness with efficiency, sustainability and inclusion,” he said.

The Royal Government of Cambodia considers the SME sector as the backbone of the economy, creating stimulus programs that have been put in place to help the sector.

There are some 500,000 SMEs in the country, most of them are informal businesses.

The number of SMEs registered at the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation rose to 44,515 as of 2023, generating jobs for over 460,000 local people.
