Phnom Penh, May 21, 2024 --

Phnom Penh is set to host its first international Choir Competition, organised by the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and partners, including INTERKULTUR and All Dreams Cambodia.

Scheduled for May 30-June 1, the contest aims to not only foster cultural ties with other countries but also attract more tourists to the capital as well as other tourist sites in Cambodia.

According to an advisor to the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts H.E. Sam Sam Ang, seven groups of about 250 people from ASEAN countries, including Cambodia, will join the competition.

Independent judges from Cambodia, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Thailand have been identified for the event.

Ms. Laurence Labadens, a representative of All Dreams Cambodia which is a partner of the ministry in organising the contest, shared that it will contribute to promoting Cambodia's culture and arts.

Another important purpose of the friendship choir competition is to promote environmental conservation and sustainability, she added.

The contest will also feature friendship concerts at public spaces in Phnom Penh, such as Wat Phnom, shopping malls, and beyond.

If it is well supported, a bigger contest of this kind will be organised again in 2026.
