Chinese Leaders Congratulate Cambodian Ruling Party’s Landslide Victory in Sunday Election

Phnom Penh, July 25, 2023 --

Chinese Leaders has sent their respective congratulatory message to Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia and President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), on the CPP’s victory in the 7th legislature National Assembly election on Sunday. In their messages dated July 25, Chinese President and General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) H.E. Xi Jinping and Premier of the State Council of China H.E. Li Qiang extended their warm congratulations on the CPP's victory and added that under the leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Cambodia has achieved political stability, economic development, rising living standards and growing international and regional stature.

“China will continue to support Cambodia in pursuing a development path that suits its national conditions. I am convinced that under the strong leadership of Samdech President, the CPP will continue to achieve greater success in prosperity of the country, and well-being of the people, while contributing to regional peace, stability, development, and prosperity,” H.E. Xi Jinping underlined.

"China and Cambodia are a community with a shared future. The CPC attaches great importance to friendly cooperation with the CPP," said H.E. Xi Jinping, affirming his readiness to work with Samdech Techo Hun Sen to strengthen political guidance for bilateral relations, deepen exchanges and cooperation between the two parties and in various fields, to jointly build a high-quality, high-level and high-standard China-Cambodia Community with a Shared Future in the new era to the greater benefit of both countries and peoples.

For his part, H.E. Li Qiang said China and Cambodia are true friends withstanding thicks and thins and good brothers with genuine mutual trust, forging ahead in the building of high-quality, high-level and high-standard China-Cambodia Community with a Shared Future in a new era.

“I stand ready to work with Samdech Prime Minister to advance closer collaboration among various sectors and localities of the two countries, further enriching China-Cambodia Diamond Cooperation, with early harvest of ‘Industrial and Technological Corridor’, ‘Fish and Rice Corridor’ and other initiatives, delivering more benefits to the two peoples,” he stressed.

The 7th National Election took place on July 23 in 23,789 polling stations throughout the country with the participation of 18 political parties and a high turnout rate of 84.58 percent or 8.2 million of the total 9.7 million eligible voters.

According to the preliminary results released by the National Election Committee (NEC), CPP won landslide victory, followed by the royalist FUNCIPEC Party.
