Phnom Penh, March 20, 2024 --

The Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology received a senior World Bank delegation to exchange lessons learned from on-going water and irrigation projects to improve the implementation of a new one.

The minister, H.E. Thor Chetha, met with Ms. Maria Angelica Sotomayor, a Water Practice Manager for East Asia and the Pacific at the World Bank, and her team on Mar. 19 at the ministry.

He underlined the Royal Government's water priorities to support Cambodia's sustainable socioeconomic growth, as well as the progress and challenges in the sector.

He suggested that the World Bank consider supporting the strengthening of national policy and institutional capacity development in water and irrigation at both the national and subnational levels.

The two also touched on rehabilitation of irrigation infrastructure, the Tonle Sap and Mekong river management plans, and active projects supported by the World Bank.

According to Ms. Maria Angelica Sotomayor, a new water resources development project for Cambodia will be submitted for the approval of the Board of Directors at the World Bank in April, along with insights from the minister and concerned technical team.
