Phnom Penh, July 20, 2023--

Cambodia has appreciated the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF) for sending its observers for the country's 7th general election to take place on Jul. 23.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Samdech Krolahom Sar Kheng expressed his appreciation during his meeting with H.E. Désiré NYARUHIRIRA, Special Adviser to the OIF Secretary-General on Diplomacy and Political Affairs, here in Phnom Penh on July 19.

Samdech Sar Kheng briefed H.E. Désiré NYARUHIRIRA on Cambodia's election process, including the election for the 7th legislature and the commune/Sangkat council election last year.

Cambodia also has two indirect elections: the senate election and the capital, provincial, city, district, and Khan council election, continued the deputy prime minister.

He underlined the improving security situation in Cambodia's elections during the last three decades, especially in the past elections.

H.E. Désiré NYARUHIRIRA thanked Samdech Sar Kheng for the meeting and lauded Cambodia's role in the establishment of OIF.

OIF has always sent observers for elections in Cambodia and other Francophone countries to contribute to strengthening the rule of law and peace, he emphasised.
