Phnom Penh, July 14, 2023 --

The mother of Aung Khant Moe, a two-year-old Burmese boy who went through operation for Omphalocele, a rare abdominal wall defect, has expressed her gratitude and appreciation for Cambodia for the care and support to her son.

“Thank you so much everyone for supporting my son. We were very anxious about coming so far away from home, but after arriving in Cambodia, the medical staff and other patients always come to help us with so much care. Even though we don’t speak the same language, I can feel so much support by the Cambodian people,” she said.

“In Myanmar, there are many children with disease suffering like my son under the current situation. Thank you so much for caring about Burmese people. It means so much to us,” she added.

According to Japan Heart’s Facebook page, the operation was conduction last Sunday. It was a five-hour long surgery and was carried out by a team of Cambodian and Japanese medical professionals.

In such a little body, the source said, the boy has survived the long surgery and is now slowly recovering in the intensive care unit (ICU). He is accompanied by his mother and the medical team day and night.
