Phnom Penh, January 02, 2024 --

Workers in the textile, garment, footwear, and travel goods industry can obtain US$204 as minimum wage a month starting from January 2024.

“Congratulations! From January 2024 onwards, workers and employees in the textile, garment, footwear and travel goods sector will receive a minimum wage of US$204 per month, an increase of US$4 from December 2023,” said Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet on his social media networks this morning.

Speaking at a get-together with some 18,000 workers from Khan Meanchey and Khan Dangkor in Phnom Penh in October, the Premier said a US$4 increase is very little for the workers, but it is hard for the employers, therefore we should share to live and help to live together during this economic downturn.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said Cambodian workers’ minimum wage is already higher than that in some nations, including Laos, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, Vietnam and some parts in Indonesia and Malaysia.

The monthly minimum wage for workers in the garment, footwear and travel goods sector was US$200 in 2023, and US$194 in 2022.
