China stands for justice over Middle East conflict

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said at a press conference that Beijing has always stood for peace and justice in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

He said in response to a request from Tass for commenting on the EU's call for China to influence Hamas and Iran to avoid escalating tensions in the Middle East, "In the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, China has always stood for peace and justice. "We have maintained close contact with stakeholders."

"We are working hard to stop the fires and explosions," Wang said. "We call for the restoration of peace."

He stressed that countries outside the Middle East, especially superpowers, should be purposeful and impartial and play a constructive role in easing tensions.

In the Middle East, China favored the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with full sovereignty on the 1967 border with East Jerusalem as its capital.

China should use its influence over Hamas and Iran to avoid escalating tensions in the Middle East, EU Commission President Usula von de Leyen said at a meeting of EU diplomats on Monday.
