Phnom Penh, May 26, 2023 --

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen this morning continued his second round of visit to factory workers, after his first round between 2017-2019 with nearly one million workers across the Kingdom.

The visit was made at Marvel Garment Factory located in the Royal Group Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Khan Kambol with some 19,000 workers and employees, of them nearly 16,000 are from Marvel Garment Co., Ltd., 1,500 from Rongwin Garment Co., Ltd. and 1,500 others from Daqian Textile (Cambodia) Co., Ltd.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen said he wanted to meet the workers since 2020, but the plan was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Premier continued that tomorrow he will further meet with other 19,000 workers at the same SEZ and was scheduled to visit other workers throughout the country, especially in Phnom Penh, Preah Sihanouk, Takeo, Svay Rieng, Kampong Cham, etc.

“In early 1990s, Cambodia had only 64 factories with only 80,000 workers, but now there are 1,326 garment and textile factories with some 800,000 workers,” he underlined.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen said if we add other types of factories, Cambodia has in total 17,000 factories with 1.5 million workers.

The second round of his visit to factory workers began at the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone (SSEZ) in Preah Sihanouk province with some 24,000 workers and employees.

To witness their work challenges, Samdech Techo Prime Minister from 2017 to 2019 made site visits to nearly one million workers across Cambodia, and has pushed through necessary measures to address the issues identified.
