Phnom Penh, October 31, 2023 --

The European Union (EU) has appreciated Cambodia's efforts to promote the welfare of people with disabilities.

The appreciation was made by H.E. Igor Driesmans, EU Ambassador to Cambodia, during a meeting with H.E. Chea Somethy, Minister of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation, in Phnom Penh on Oct. 30.

H.E. Igor Driesmans shared his impression of the remarkable attention paid to people with disabilities, including the rollout of an identity programme to support them and the organisation of the ASEAN Para Games 2023 in Cambodia for them to demonstrate their ability.

The ambassador pledged to continue cooperation with the ministry in an endeavour to contribute to Cambodia's inclusive social development.

H.E. Chea Somethy thanked the EU as well as the ambassador for the appreciation and continuous support to further promote the rights and access of people with disabilities in Cambodia.

The Royal Government of Cambodia is committed to working closely with development partners as well as other players to support vulnerable groups, including people with disabilities.
