Phnom Penh-Poipet Expressway Project Fully Supported by the Department of Foreign Capital and Foreign Investment (China)
Phnom Penh, March 24, 2023 -
HE Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport, received a delegation led by Mr. ZHANG Zhiqing, Deputy Director General of the Department of Foreign Capital and Foreign Investment of the National Development and Reform Commission of the People's Republic of China on March 23, 2023 at the Ministry.
In this meeting, in order to discuss especially the Phnom Penh-Poipet high-speed railway project to accelerate this project to appear in accordance with the high recommendations and strong commitment of the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
On that occasion, HE Senior Minister highlighted major projects to examine the possibility of providing financial assistance, such as: (1) Reconstruction project of National Road No. 3 Veal Renh - Trapeang Ropov, which has been studied by China Bridge and Road Corporation (CRBC). (2) The project to expand National Road No. 6 from Siem Reap New International Airport to Siem Reap City, which has been studied by Shanghai Construction Group Co., Ltd. (3) Tonle Bassac Navigation Road and Logistics System Project studied in detail by CCCC Water Transportation Consultants Co., Ltd.
Regarding the proposal to establish this technical working group, HE Senior Minister agreed with the appointment of leaders and professional officials from relevant institutions.
Meanwhile, Mr. ZHANG Zhiqing emphasized that the reconstruction project of National Road No. 3 Veal Renh-Trapeang Ropov and the project to expand National Road No. 6 from Siem Reap New International Airport to Siem Reap City are in the process of feasibility and evaluation. . Regarding the Bassac River Navigation and Logistics Project, the Chinese side requested the time for the results of the feasibility study to be submitted to the relevant professional institutions in detail to provide a basis for feedback.
Please note that the main responsibility of the Department of Foreign Capital and Foreign Investment is to provide strategies, plans and policies for the use of foreign capital and foreign investment and to evaluate important projects. In addition, the department also provides guidance and facilitates international cooperation on major projects to connect inter-infrastructure, production capacity and energy production.
