Phnom Penh, October 31, 2024 --
Cambodian Ministry of Tourism held here on Oct. 30 a meeting with representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to the Kingdom of Cambodia, and the Cambodian-Korean private sector to address concerns and requests related to a recent Korean TV report alleging that Korean citizens were subjected to illegal detention and coercion in Cambodia.
Chaired by H.E. Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism, the meeting was attended by high-ranking ministry officials, representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, members of the Korean Association, the Cambodian Tourism Association, tour operators, tourism companies, Korean investors, and Korean nationals residing and doing business in Cambodia.
On the occasion, H.E. Minister presented Cambodia's actual situation, emphasising the nation's full peace, security, and favourable environment for foreign investment and international tourists, especially from the Republic of Korea.
H.E. Huot Hak also reaffirmed the Royal Government of Cambodia’s strong commitment to taking strict measures to combat all forms of crime, including both traditional and online offences.
The Korean Association and all relevant parties highlighted that Korean residents and businesses operate safely and harmoniously in Cambodia. They also shared the message to the Korean community and Korean nationals to visit Cambodia with peace of mind, as Cambodia is a safe destination for both domestic and international visitors.
Figures from the Ministry of Tourism show that in the first nine months of this year, Cambodia welcomed approximately 144,293 Korean tourists, an increase of 14.8 percent compared to the same period in 2023.
