Cambodia Grabs Six Medals At 21st ASEAN University Games In Indonesia
Phnom Penh, July 04, 2024 --
As of July 4 morning, Cambodia has bagged a total of six medals at the 21st ASEAN University Games taking place in Indonesia from June 25 to July 6.
Of the six medals, one gold, one silver and two bronze medals were won in petanque, one silver in Judo, and another silver in WT taekwondo.
Cambodian athletes of three kinds of sports – petanque, judo and swimming – retuned home on July 3 with five medals: four for petanque and one for judo.
Addressing the homecoming ceremony at Phnom Penh International Airport, H.E. Samedy Sivathana, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, said this is a success resulted from the athletes' hard work and the Royal Government of Cambodia's attention to promote the sports movement in accordance with its policy "One youth plays at least one sport in life".
The secretary of state encouraged the athletes as well as para athletes to train hard for the upcoming Asian Youth Games and Asian Youth Para Games 2029 in Cambodia; and in order to contribute to Cambodia's sports sector development.
The 21st ASEAN University Games aims to promote solidarity and traditional and cultural exchange among students from ASEAN universities as well as to provide a good opportunity for ASEAN students to set their sports skills.
Cambodia has sent 45 sports delegates, coaches and athletes of six kinds of sports, including petanque, taekwondo, athletics, karate, swimming, and judo for the regional games.
